- Body Armor?
I am not a cop but I figure cops know about this so.... just clarifying that. I want to get some body armor for every day use, just to wear around town so if someone goes postal or someone tries to mug me I am covered. First, am I allowed to wear body armor around town in Texas, I don't know of any laws against it but want to make sure. I hear that level 2 armor provides OK protection but is not too bulky. I guess size matters so I took some measurements. My waist is 36 inches, at my naval is 35 inches and my chest is 39". I would like a little big of wiggle room so if I pig out or work out I can still fit in but I want it not to wiggle when I move before then. I assume they are adjustable to some extent. What is the best type of armor for me and how much should I expect to pay? Does armor expire? Are there any things I can't do in it? Does sweat cause it to go bad, how about water, heat? Any info would be greatly appreciated. When it starts to stink can I wash it, I heard water ruins it? What is the best way to fight odor? Does wearing an undershirt help? I figure after a while I will get used to it... just like you get used to wearing a watch or carrying a wallet.

A Body Armor is hot, uncomfortable, and bulky. I wear it because I have to, but I wouldn't recommend it for 'just wearing around town'... It shouldn't be illegal unless you are a felon or committing a felony at the time you are wearing it, though. It generally has a recommended life of 5 years, costs about $300 and will stink to high heaven after about three days of being worn in the Texas summer.

i have been arrested of a felony. (agg assult ddly wepn) it has not gone to trial. is it illegal in Texas for me to wear my body armor?

A In my state it is what is called an enhancment to a crime, if you are wearing body armor. It all came about after the West Hollywood shoot out, where those bad guys were wearing it. Get on your attorney generals website. Try Texas.gov.
